Faïencerie de Saint-Jean la-Poterie

€30.00

The faïencerie of Saint-Jean la Poterie, sometimes called Saint-Jean de Bretagne, had roots going back a very long time. With many ups and downs in its past, its current history dates from the World War II era until a fire in 1989 put an end to the activity of this ceramics manufacture, located near Redon (not far from Rennes in eastern Brittany). This faïencerie had its own interpretations of Breton decors and motifs, and it also produced jaspé and rustic terra cotta articles. This book is dedicated to the workers of the faïencerie, and it includes lots of color photos, as well as various kinds of documentation of the life of the faïencerie (catalogues, photos, postcards, invoices, etc.). And it is not surprising to find cross-overs with the Quimper manufactures! This book is more than a historical recounting of the faïencerie; it is a humanistic look at the life of the manufacture. By Anne-Héloïse Roche & Pierre Lorent, prefaces by Bernard Jules Verlingue (curator, Musée de la Faïence de Quimper) & Michel Pierre (mayor, Saint-Jean-la-Poterie). 8-1/8" x 9", 204 pages, in French. Liv'Editions, 2010.
